Cooperative Education

Work-Based Learning

College credit for work experience
Cooperative Education helps students earn up to 15 credits toward their degree for paid or unpaid employment in a job related to their field of study at LCC. Work Study jobs may qualify.

How it Works
Students are assigned to an instructor in their field of study. The instructor, student and job site supervisor develop and agree upon learning objectives, and how to apply the concepts learned in the classroom to a real job setting.

Students also take a one credit Cooperative Education seminar to build a portfolio or research a work-related topic.

Jamie Drake

"I loved college! I was sad when my Accounting classes were over. I love anything with numbers. Jim Stanley was my favorite instructor. I also took Photography from Marvin Pierson. It was great."

--Jamie Drake

Testimonial

Yes, there are good jobs out there. Jamie Drake got one.

The Castle Rock resident, a graduate of Winlock's APOLO high school, came to LCC to follow her dream of an Accounting career after several years working in auto licensing.

She turned her cooperative education internship with the Cowlitz County Auditor's office into a year-long temporary position.

Last December Jamie landed a permanent position at the Cowlitz County Health Department, tracking invoices and grants and doing payroll.

Now she is finishing up her classes and will graduate in June 2010 with an Associate in Applied Science degree.

Congratulations!
