Encounters with Beethoven, made possible by the Ken and Pat Hanson Musical Endowment, Sunday, October 20, 2 pm, Wollenberg Auditorium.
Lower Columbia College is pleased to welcome Pianist Dr. Kenn Willson to the Rose Center for the Arts for a concert titled Encounters with Beethoven.
This concert, anything but a typical academic piano recital, will engage the audience through music as well as pictures, narration, movie clips, humor and more.
A Montana native, “Dr. Kenn” began playing the piano at the age of six when he taught himself to read music. He began formal training at the age of 10 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Fox University, a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Portland, and a Doctor of Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.
Bosendorfer Imperial Grand Piano
Dr. Willson’s passion is the piano. One of his favorites pianos is the Bosendorfer, which just happens to be piano that Lower Columbia College owns, thanks to the generosity of Ken and Pat Hanson. The Hanson’s, who met at LCC, were long-term supporters of music programs at the college and purchased the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand Piano, along with other music instruments for local students and the college. The Hanson endowment through the LCC Foundation leaves a legacy of music to benefit the college, future generations of students and the entire community.
Bosendorfer pianos are handcrafted in Austria. The Bosendorfer Grand Concert Pianos are known for having 97 keys; a full eight octaves. Most traditional concert pianos have 88 keys. Dr. Willson was named a Bosendorfer Education Artist by the Viennese Piano Manufacturing company in October 2005. He was also invited to present a recital in Bosendorfer Hall in May of 2006.
Dr. Willson is a tenured Professor of Music at George Fox University. He teaches music theory, music history, keyboard literature, piano pedagogy and applied piano. For more information on Dr. Kenn Willson please visit encounterswith.com
