Library Cards

Getting a library card

To get a Student Library Card you will need your current student ID card or proof of registration and a photo ID. To obtain a Community User Card, you need two pieces of currently dated identification with your current address, one of which must be photo ID. LCC employees may obtain library cards with proof of employment status.

How long is my card valid?

Cards are updated annually. Cards may be updated only after all fines and overdue materials have been cleared

What happens if I lose my card?

You are financially responsible for all materials charged to your card. Please notify the Library promptly if your card is lost or stolen. Also notify the Library if you change your address or telephone number.

What are my borrowing privileges?

Your library card entitles you to borrow a wide range of materials:

  • Books and paperbacks may be borrowed for 21 days
  • CDs for 7 days.
  • Faculty may check materials out for longer periods.
  • Materials from the "Reserve Collection" are for LCC student use only and are loaned for periods set by the course instructor.
  • Many are Library Use Only, as are reference materials, periodicals and atlases.
  • Videos and DVDs form an important part of the Library’s collection. Library users may borrow them on a two hour library use only basis. If checked-out within two hours of the library closing time, they will be due the following morning one hour after opening (limit two items).
  • Videos/DVDs and reserve items are not renewable.
  • Headphones are available for students and LCC employees (library use only).
  • Students and LCC employees may renew materials by phone at 360.442.2660 or email @lowercolumbia.edu/resources/lcclinked.aspx one time.
  • Community users may borrow up to five items at a time and do not have renewal privileges.
  • All library users need to present their library card when borrowing materials.

What if I’m late in returning materials to the Library?

There is a "grace period" for library materials before any overdue fines are assessed. You cannot borrow materials if you owe the Library $5.00 or more in unpaid fines or other charges. If you lose library materials, you are responsible for paying the replacement cost as well as a $7.50 processing fee (per item).

Overdue fines accrue as follows:

  • minimum fine of $0.50
  • fine accrues at $0.10 per day
  • maximum fine of $5.00 per item
  • grace period: 4 days
