MEADORS TO LEAD LOWER COLUMBIA COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM

Lower Columbia College has hired a new women’s head basketball coach. Chad Meadors will take over the Lady Devil program for the 2007-2008 season, replacing Jason Hoseney who retired from coaching.

Meadors, 35, led the Stayton High School girls basketball team to the Oregon 4A championship last March. He was the Eagles head coach for five seasons. Meadors also served one season as the boys assistant coach at Stayton and also gained experience as an assistant at North Marion High, Woodburn High and Kennedy HS in Mount Angel. Meadors also served as the head baseball coach for two seasons at Woodburn.

“This is a dynamic young coach who is ready to bring his talent and desire to the college ranks”, said LCC athletic director Kirc Roland.  Meadors will also serve Lower Columbia College students as an education planner with an emphasis on student persistence.  “Chad impressed the selection committee with an honest desire to help students and student/athletes. He is a proven winner and his enthusiasm and preparedness won over the committee.”

“I’m excited about this great new challenge”, said Meadors. It’s a step up with plenty of added responsibility, but I feel I’m ready. I look forward to arriving on campus and meeting the players. My goal is to take this already solid program and take it to the next level.”

Meadors graduated from North Marion High School where he was a baseball player for the Huskies. He continued his baseball playing career at Chemeketa College and then Clackamas College. He then owned his own cattle ranch in Aurora, Oregon before being drawn back into education and coaching. Meadors earned his BS degree in Political Science at Western Oregon University in 2000 right before being hired to teach at Stayton High. He then took over as the Stayton Head Coach were he steadily led the Eagles to prominence, capped off by the State 4A title last winter.

Meadors teams were known to play top notch defense. Last season his Eagles led the state in fewest points allowed. Four of his players from that team are continuing on to the college level. “Chad is excited to enter the world of college recruiting himself”, according to Roland.

Meadors is the 10th head coach in the history of women’s basketball at Lower Columbia College. Hoseney completed a successful seven year stint at LCC with a record of 128-73 including a 4th place finish at the NWAACC tourney in March. “Jason did a great job coaching the Lady Devils and he will be missed”, according to Roland. “Jason has left the program in great shape and Coach Meadors should benefit from Jason’s hard work.”
