Women Self Portraits–Seeing Ourselves
Can’t draw a stick figure? It isn’t required for this art class! This painting/mixed media course incorporates materials like tile, glass, wire, and other objects into 2-dimensional art work. Collette Edmunds explores history in art, from cave paintings to cathedrals, conventional to contemporary, but wear your grubbies because this isn’t just a theory class! Artwork from this class may be displayed at Kalama’s Cowlitz Bank. Bring a sketchbook, pencils, and $15 to class for materials. Sign up for item number 1247; $60.

Do you have a beloved set of old chipped china that you can't part with? A favorite coffee mug that's cracked, but has sentimental value? In this class, students will get a chance to give these old friends new life! Using tile, ceramics, and china, old and new students will have an opportunity to create a custom back splash for kitchen or bath, a unique one of a kind wall hanging, or create a custom headboard. BASKETRY
Plaited Basketry
Weave baskets using patterns based on those of the Eastern Cherokee. Make a simple berry basket by weaving a pattern with flat reed, then master more advanced projects, like an intricate tote basket with handles. Please bring $25 to class for materials. Ribbed Basketry
Make a basket to hold your Halloween candies! Invite your friends to join you in weaving baskets for you or for the kids. Ribbed basketry begins with a simple Appalachian melon basket project, then an Amish egg basket, and advances to a more intricate basket with a driftwood handle. Bring $25 to class for materials. Pine Needle Basketry
Intricacies and details will make your project a piece of art to behold! Begin by coiling around an agate or art wood center, and advance to creating your own Tenerife center. A variety of beginning to more advanced projects will be offered. Complete a Tenerife Christmas ornament after you have mastered some of the more complex material. Bring $25 to class for materials. Color Book Paintings
Bring your favorite color book page! Collette Edmunds encourages children and adults to think outside the box (and color outside the lines!) using this new method of looking at a traditional color book. Use the first session to draw and prepare sketches. Apply latex caulking during session two. Finally, use acrylic paints to complete your work-of-art at the final session. Making Faux Fossils
Don’t know what you want to be when you grow up? That’s WAY OKAY! In this class Collette Edmunds will give you a chance to be an artist, geologist, and a paleontologist. Children and adults will cast leaves or flowers in plaster of Paris, remove the matrix surrounding the cast, and reveal what looks like ancient plants from ancient times. Use water-color to bring out the details of the “fossil.” Young children (6 and under) must have a parent or guardian present. Bring a sketch-book, pencils, and $5 to class for materials. Drawing for the Absolute Beginner

You'll gain a solid understanding of the many tools of the trade. You'll become intimately familiar with paper types, drawing styles, rendering techniques, and the basic principal of perspective, layout, design, lighting, volume, and space.
