About Running Start

What is the Running Start Program?
It is a unique partnership between your high school and Lower Columbia College. The program allows high school juniors and seniors to take college classes as all or part of their high school program and earn both high school and college credits.

How does the program work?
Running Start students attend regular LCC classes during the day or in the evening. Upon satisfactory completion of the course requirements, college credit—-which is fully transferable to most colleges and universities—-is granted. Credits may also apply to high school graduation according to individual school district policy.

Your enrollment at LCC creates your official college transcript. At the end of each quarter, a copy of your transcript will be sent to your high school. Transcripts are considered confidential information and are released to no one without the student’s permission.

How much does it cost?
As a Running Start student, you pay no college tuition.  However, you will need to buy books, supplies, materials, and provide transportation to and from campus. Limited textbook assistance is available for students with financial need.

What classes can I take?
You can choose from a full range of professional/technical and academic courses for university or college transfer. For current course offerings, check the quarterly class schedule.

How do I qualify?
You need your parents permission to participate. You must successfully place into college level work based on placement assessment scores and must maintain acceptable academic standing.

High school permission is not required for entry into the program.
