International Programs at Lower Columbia College offers students the opportunity to participate in exchange programs or to take Washington State Community College Classes taught by Washington State Community College professors, in an international setting. Programs are offered during fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters. We can also assist you to apply for fully funded programs offered by government agencies.
- Programs are open to all adult students (some allow travelers under 18)
- Most programs are open to Running Start students
- Students are not required to speak a foreign language to participate
- Financial aid and scholarships may apply
S Korea, Seoul - Summer 2024
Courses Offered:
- Korean Language
- Choice of 1-2 class from an approved list of courses.
- Enrollment in this program requires students to enroll Green River college and transfer classes back to LCC
Japan, Tokyo / Hachioji - Fall 2024

Freeman Asia Scholarship for Study in East or SE Asia
- Scholarship for up to $5000 towards a quarter-long study abroad program in E or SE Asia for those with demonstrated financial need

Lyon, France - Fall 2024
Study in Lyon, rated the number one city in France for students. Lyon is France’s second largest city and an important European crossroad. Its remarkable location at the heart of Europe links Lyon – with an average of 90 minutes travel time – to all of the major European metropolises including Barcelona, Milan, Turin, and Geneva thanks to a network of transportation by air, road, or rail. The proximity of Provence, the Mediterranean, the Alps, and the large wine regions adds charm to the Lyon area.

Summer Critical Language Scholarship Program
Spend 10 - 12 weeks in the summer studying a language of critical need. Most languages offered by the CLS Program (9 of 15) do not require applicants to have any experience studying critical languages. Application period for Summer opens in September and applications are due mid- November 15.
Germany - CBYX Exchange 2025-26 year
Intern and work in Germany for 1 year (limited to ages 18 ½ - 24) (full academic year)
Application period for 2024-25 will open in September 2023, applications will be due December 1, 2023.
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18½–24, the opportunity to a one year exchange studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.
Frederick Douglass Global Scholars Summer Ireland Program
Travel with a cohort of other students to Dublin, Ireland from July 11 - August 6th (these dates could change). Requirements: The program invites applications from students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and are from ethnic backgrounds typically underrepresented on study abroad programs.
Applications for the program are due February 14th for the upcoming summer.
The program explores the impact that effective leaders have had on social justice movements and critical peace and conflict resolution efforts around the world. Frederick Douglass Global Fellows will explore conflict and injustice from various perspectives and the leaders who sought to affect positive change for their communities and their countries.
