Renewal
Get a 3-year card! Bring your *valid card with you (*up to 60 days prior to expiration and up to 14 days after), and upon passing test, receive an additional year on your food handler card.

A 5-year renewal card is available to those individuals that bring *valid health card and have completed approved training.

Food Handler

Health Cards or Food Handler cards are required by the Cowlitz County Health Department for all food service employees working in Cowlitz County restaurants, grocery stores, concession stands and other venues that provide food to the public. Health Card testing is available at the LCC Admissions Center.

Fall/Winter/Spring Testing Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
   Except for the following Mondays:

Test Fee: $10.00 (No Checks Accepted)

How to take the Food Handler test:

All testers must bring a photo ID with them the day of the test. No exceptions.

Food Handler Cards are valid for 2 years throughout Washington State.

Special note: No children or cell phones are allowed in the testing room.

Re-Testing
If you don't pass the test, you can re-take the Food Handler test within 14 days free of charge. You must wait at least 24 hours to retest, and you must view the video again prior to retesting.

Language Availability
Testing and instruction are now available in several languages.

  • Video Instruction: English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Russian, and Mandarin
  • Written Test: English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese and Russian.
  • Study booklets: Downloadable booklets in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Russian.

Group Testing Available
Employers and organizations can arrange special group sessions either on-site or at the LCC testing center. Call 360-442-2353 for more information.
