Caregiver Training

Caregivers are required to take 12 hours of Continuing Education per year. LCC offers DSHS approved courses. Please contact Mary Harris for more information and a current list of classes. Family caregivers, nursing students, medical assistants, RNs, and LPNs may also take these classes. Please check with your sponsoring agency to determine the appropriate courses.

Nurse Delegation

A self-study training course for Nursing Assistants who will accept and perform tasks delegated by a Registered Nurse (RN).


Food and Beverage Worker's Permits

Lower Columbia College provides food handler training and testing for the Cowlitz County Health Department. The food handler’s health card is required for working in any Washington State food service establishment in compliance with food safety regulations (WAC 246-217) and (RCW 69.06.010).

New food handler permits are valid for 2 years from the date of the test. Renewal cards are valid for 3 years from the date of the test, only if the test is completed no longer than 14 days past its current expiration date and no sooner than 60 days before the expiration date. To receive a renewal card, you must provide proof of the original card (card or copy of). 

A 5-year renewal card is available to those individuals that bring a valid health card and have completed additional food safety training for workers.

Test Information

Please allow for one hour to view a 30-minute video, followed by a multiple choice test, consisting of 35 questions. If you do not pass, you can re-take the test within 14 days free of charge. You must wait 24 hours to re-test and you must view the video again prior to re-testing.

Two Ways to Test:

LCC Testing Center

All testers must bring a photo ID with them the day of the test, no exceptions. No children or cell phones are allowed in the testing room. Contact the Testing Center with any questions.

  • Hours: M-Th 8 am-4 pm. No testing on Fridays.
  • Fee: $10 per card. No checks accepted.
  • ID: photo ID required on day of test. No exceptions.

Off Site Group Testing

Employers and organizations can arrange for group off-site testing through the Corporate and Continuing Education department. Testing is available Monday-Thursday.  Please provide at least 3-5 days’ notice when scheduling your group testing. Evening times are available if needed.   • Fee: $11 per card, plus a $25 offsite fee.

Flagger Certification

Fee: $75 - includes textbook and ID cards

Learn professional flagging techniques and proper work zone setup in accordance with standards and guidelines of the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Washington Modification to the MUTCD, L & I WAC 296-155-305, and WSDOT State Standard Specifications.

Upon successful completion, receive both ATSSA & Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) flagger cards valid for 3 years.

Washington State Flagger Certification Card accepted in WA, OR, ID, and MT; ATSSA National Flagger Certification Card accepted in most other states.
