LCC offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology. Graduates can competently perform tasks chosen by local employers and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), a branch of the the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
You can also add a degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology by adding 61 credits of Diesel courses. An LCC advisor can answer specific questions.
What kind of courses will I take?
In addition to general education classes such as industrial math and communications, you will take a variety of courses dealing with automotive systems. Courses that emphasize the basics, as well as specialty courses that focus on hydraulics, electrical systems, traction control, fuels and emissions, computer vehicle controls and gas engines, are part of the curriculum for this program. Areas of training include:
- electricity and electronics, theory, computer controls, ignition and accessories
- safety in the shop and aboard the vehicle
- brake systems, manual, anti-lock
- hydraulic systems theory and application gear train theory and lab
- air conditioning operation and service
- engine theory, rebuild techniques and machining
- diagnostic equipment principles and operation
- four wheel computer alignment
- precision tools application
- computerized engine controls
What about practical experience?
Because LCC's Automotive Technology program emphasizes hands-on training, most of your training will be in a lab setting.
