Student Academic Rights
Students need to be aware of their academic rights and responsibilities at Lower Columbia College. Each student has the right to:

  • fair and equal treatment in all areas of academic concern.
  • fair and unbiased evaluation of his/her academic work.
  • clearly stated criteria for evaluation by the faculty.
  • appeal any sanctions and can provide evidence that he/she has been falsely accused of violating the academic code or that he/she has been evaluated in an arbitrary and capricious manner by a member of the College faculty.

Student Academic Integrity
Students are expected to maintain high standards of academic honesty and Integrity in their academic work. Members of the college community all benefit from an open, honest educational environment. Everyone is responsible to encourage and promote academic integrity, a code of moral and artistic honesty in accordance with the Academic Code of the College.

Students are also expected to know and comply with accepted classroom procedures and academic standards as set forth by the college faculty.

Academic Grievances
The Academic Grievance Policy assures student freedom of expression and protection from improper, arbitrary or capricious academic evaluations. See page 44 of the current Student Handbook for detailed information.
