Fencing Club
Students and staff are welcome.
Who are we?
You may have seen us practicing in the quad or on the Student Center stage when the weather is poor. Some of our members are new and just learning to fence. Others work on improving their fencing skills and attend fencing competitions in the Northwest.
How to join?
Students or staff interested in fencing may join the club. For more information please contact Club Advisor
.
Equipment
Comfortable clothes that allow you to move around quickly and shoes with good traction. Most fencing equipment, such as masks and jackets, will be provided.
Red Devil Duel!
We held our first intercollegiate tournament on Nov. 2009. Our fencers did quite well. Andrew Greig took 4th of 35 foil fencers and John Scharfenburg took 4th of 18 epee fencers. For team honors, LCC took 1st place in epee and 2nd place in foil. Other schools at the competition were University of Oregon, University of Puget Sound, Portland State University, University of Washington, and Clark CC.
Club Teaches Youth Group Saber: the Fencing Club introduced a local youth group to the sport of Olympic saber fencing.

Competitions
On April 11, 2010 the Fencing Club competed against Reed College, University of Portland, University of Puget Sound and Clark Community College. LCC teams took second place in foil and first and third places in saber!
On February 24, 2007 the Fencing Club competed in its first tournament at Reed College in Portland. Our saber team (Doug Carter, Andrew Greig, and Jacob Rintoul, front row in the team picture below) took first place, competing against teams from Reed and the University of Oregon. Our foil team (Zach Greig, Corwyn Kiger, and David Meyers back row in team picture) took second place in a much larger field of teams.
Attending the tournament at Reed has become a tradition for our club.

Fencing Rules and Regulations
The 2008 Rule Book and the 2009 updates for fencing are good resources to learn the rules (complete with the Penalty Chart). The USFA Referee Handbook is another source for anyone interested in participating in the fencing club.
